BIOGRAPHY

Because of his mixed Togolese/French origins, AyiTé, aka Olivier Ajavon, is at the crossroads of the African and Western cultures, and  therefore he is naturally suited to make the link between the two.

AyiTé was born in France and moved to his father’s country, Togo (W. Africa) at the age of 5.

In love with melodies and voices, with his music, he takes us on a journey through his very personal universe. Fusing elements of Pop, Jazz and World Music, he dares to combine the aspects of his unique, cosmopolitan background.

INFLUENCES:

At the age of 15, he moved back to France, and put several bands together. His style was inspired by the sounds of Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder, George Benson and James Ingram.

Over the years, he became not only a great singer and songwriter, but also an experienced and soulful guitarist. Known throughout Europe and Africa as a multi-instrumentalist, singer, backing vocalist and producer, he is also an in-demand sideman and studio musician.

AN ARTIST, A UNIVERSE

Strong emotional events in his life, like the passing away of his father and the birth of his daughter finally led him to express musically his experiences and emotions. He decided to share himself through an authentic and carefully produced recording. One that was many years in the making. Crossing continents several times and collaborating with musicians around the world, this labor of love is finally complete and ready to be presented to music fans everywhere.

He called an old friend he met while performing in Paris in 1989. The talented producer/keyboardist/arranger Darrell Diaz. Musical director for artists such as Maxwell, Kenny Lattimore, Dancing with the Stars… among others, and frequent collaborator with Quincy Jones, Dr. Dre and Herbie Hancock.

AyiTé opens the doors to a warm, musical universe, and intimately shares with us his memories and a wide range of his inspirations. He gives us a special and unique record, the kind of music that could only be produced from the heart, body, mind and soul of a sincere man, father, artist and citizen of the World.
